new: the hoxton hotel, lloyd amsterdam
it’s finall here! just 5 days ago the hoxton hotel opened it’s second location in amsterdam, at the heart of east. the neighborhood is home to a relaxed and local community inspired by vast green spaces, water views and a vibrant arts scene.
about the hotel // his hotel occuppies a building built in 1921 by the royal dutch lloyd shipping company. the design of the new hoxton honors the rich history of the building and embraces the vibrant and youthful energy that characterizes amsterdam east. the lobby, where the living room feeling is central, welcomes local residents to the new place, where the brasserie restaurant, the new cocktail bar concept barbue and the apartment, the hybrid event and meeting space of the hoxton, are also located. the sun-drenched south-facing terrace, also the ultimate summer hang-out spot, completes the picture for lloyd's next chapter in hox style.
as with the interior of the hoxton amsterdam on herengracht (and many more hoxton hotel locations), ennismore studios has once again collaborated with local design agency nicemakers to create an aesthetic that pays tribute to the building's history while capturing the creative spirit of the eastern islands.
the design // the building's architectural heritage from the 1920s has been embraced and elevated, with elements such as the stained glass windows, wooden panels and original tiles, inspired by the brick expressionist movement, enhanced by bold hues and oversized, graphic patterns. vintage furniture from northern europe and striking lighting fixtures, such as the seven spectacular glass chandeliers in breman brasserie, recall the glamor of the art deco style of the iconic building.
in contrast to these historical elements, the nearby bisou gallery curates the hotel's entire permanent art collection (see picture above). this collection will consist of emerging local talent in combination with established and rediscovered artists and is spread across all public areas and rooms of the hotel. which we love! the bar is our absolute favourite part of the stunning hotel design.
the bold design concept continues in the interiors of 136 bedrooms. playful references to lloyd's ship connections are combined with warm colors such as coral, red and ocher, which contrast with cool blues and grays. the unique floor plan of the building has created a range of special room concepts, including the tower room with its charming spiral staircase, water views and the split-level studio mezzanine. all hoxton favorites including the room types: cozy, roomy and biggy are represented.
new are the biggy double up rooms for four people with two king-size beds, perfect for a stay with family or friends, and the biggy bunk up rooms, which in addition to a double bed also have a bunk bed with curtain partition, reminiscent of nautical sleeping arrangements.
what we love most about this place is the attention to detail: every corner of the place has so many elements, you cannot take them all in at once. next to that, the combination of several prints and the extensive use of colours speaks directly to our hearts as it links to our design style.
we couldn’t not end this post with a (pink) bathroom selfie!
